Add blur, grain and vignette

Give a 3D laptop scene depth and a film finish in Live Mockups. Blur the background around a sharp point, then add grain for texture and a vignette to darken the edges.

Find Effects

Open a scene in Live Mockups and add your design to the screen. In the right panel, click the arrows next to Media, Lights, HDR, Screen effects and Screen glow to fold them. Effects moves up and lists Blur, Aberration, Grain and Vignette, all at 0.

Add blur

Click the number field next to Blur, type 80 and press Enter. The picture goes soft, including the laptop screen.

Switch on the focus point

Click the round target button to the right of the Blur field. A ring appears on the canvas with a point at its centre, and a bar at the bottom reads “You’re in Blur mode. Drag the point to set what stays sharp.”

Place the sharp spot

Drag the centre point onto the screen. The screen and the design on it come into focus while the rest of the scene stays soft.

Click Exit in the bar. The blur and its sharp spot stay.

Add grain

Click the number field next to Grain, type 0.1 and press Enter. A fine noise covers the whole picture, like film.

Add a vignette

Click the number field next to Vignette, type 1 and press Enter. The corners darken and the eye stays on the screen.

Questions

How do I keep the screen sharp while the rest is blurred?

Click the round target button next to Blur, then drag the point on the canvas onto the screen. Click Exit in the bar when it is in place.

Does the blur stay after I leave Blur mode?

Yes. Exit keeps the blur and its sharp spot.

Which values should I start with?

This guide uses Blur 80, Grain 0.1 and Vignette 1 so each effect is easy to see. For a subtle look, start lower and raise them in small steps.

Where is Effects in the right panel?

Below Media, Lights, HDR, Screen effects and Screen glow. Fold those sections with their arrows and Effects moves up.
