Add grain and a vignette

Give a clean render a film look. Add grain for texture and a vignette to darken the edges, compare the result with the original, and reset it in one click.

Look at the clean render

Open a mockup in Static and add your design. Without effects, the picture is smooth and evenly lit. Keep this picture in mind for the comparison.

Find Effects

In the right panel, open the Effects section. It lists Blur, Aberration, Grain and Vignette. Each one has a slider and a number field, and all start at 0.

Add grain

Click the number field next to Grain, type 0.08 and press Enter. Grain runs from 0 to 0.2. Around 0.08 the texture is easy to see without hiding the design.

Add a vignette

Click the number field next to Vignette, type 0.7 and press Enter. Vignette runs from 0 to 1. The corners darken and the eye stays on the middle of the picture.

Compare the result

Look at the whole canvas next to the first picture. The texture and the darker edges give the render a photographed feel.

Reset the effects

To start over, click the circular arrow at the right of the Effects heading. It appears once an effect has a value, and it sets the effects back to 0.

Questions

What values should I use?

In this guide Grain is 0.08 and Vignette is 0.7. Grain runs from 0 to 0.2 and Vignette from 0 to 1. Both effects add up quickly, so start low.

Where are Grain and Vignette?

They are the two bottom rows of the Effects section in the right panel, below Blur and Aberration.

How do I remove the effects?

Click the circular arrow at the right of the Effects heading. It appears once an effect has a value and sets the effects back to 0.

Can I compare the result with the original?

Yes. All Effects values start at 0, so the first picture is the original, and the reset arrow brings you back to it.
